Russell Brand goes mercenary

Russell Brand is in negotiations to play the English mercenary John Hawkwood on the big screen, reports Deadline New York. 
 

Hawkwood led many troops to victory during the  14th-century Renaissance wars.
 
The film Hawkwood, which doesn't yet have a director attached, has been described as an action comedy. For now, no other details are known.
 
In September, The Tempest, in which Brand stars with Helen Mirren, will premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The film will be released in December.
 
Brand is currently in New York shooting Arthur, in which he'll again star opposite Mirren, as well as Jennifer Garner and Nick Nolte.
