If you live in the Verdun area, you’ll be happy to know that Montreal is building a new sponge park and it will be the largest one in the borough.

Near Joseph Street and Dupuis Street, the new sponge park will have a surface close to 4,300 metres with a dog park, a countryside area and a grass relaxation area where people can play, cycle and train.

Unlike traditional parks, a sponge park functions as a green space designed to absorb rainfall rather than diverting it into the sewer system. This innovative approach significantly decreases the likelihood of flooding in the surrounding area.

Construction on the new park is set to start in the coming weeks, with an expected completion date in fall 2025
